Argentina’s world cup-winning coach Lionel Scaloni has revealed that Spain is his second home and that he would gladly take charge of the Spanish national team if the opportunity arose.

Scaloni helped La Albiceleste win the FIFA World Cup, the most prestigious international title in football, in December 2022. Golden Ball winner Lionel Messi scored a sensational brace as Argentina beat France 4-2 on penalties in the final. Kylian Mbappe scored a hat-trick for France whereas skipper Messi and Angel Di Maria scored for Scaloni’s men in a thrilling 3-3 draw in extra time.

Spain, on the other hand, had a disappointing tournament in Qatar, losing to Morocco in the last 16. Luis Enrique has resigned as national team coach after La Rosa’s surprise exit from the World Cup. Since then, the Spain head coach position has been vacant and Lionel Scaloni has been questioned about applying for the position in the future.

“Why not? Spain is my second home. I am fascinated by the love and behavior they have given. Any Argentinian would say the same,” Scaloni told Spanish outlet Cope’s “El Partidazo” program. Lionel Scaloni’s primary residence is in Mallorca, Spain. He lives there with his wife and children.
