The future of Argentinian captain Lionel Messi is currently a topic of discussion. Now, Spanish journalist Gerard Romero has given a 60 percent chance for Messi, the star player of Paris Saint Germain (PSG), to return to Barcelona.

According to Romero, the possibility of Messi returning to Barcelona is constantly increasing. The 35-year-old star joined the Paris club as a free agent in 2021 after spending 21 years at the Blaugrana club. Barcelona, mired in financial struggles, were unable to offer their then-club captain a new contract at the time.

Meanwhile, Romero claims that this is increasingly likely to happen this summer. He said on his Twitch channel: “Reliable journalist claims PSG star Lionel Messi has 60% chance of returning to Barcelona.”

The FIFA World Cup 2022 winner, who had a poor performance last season, has been performing very well this season. The 7-time Ballon d’Or winner has scored 18 goals in 31 games across various competitions for PSG this season and assisted a further 17 goals.

Despite consistently performing well in PSG, they are negotiating with the current Ligue 1 club for continuous renewal of Messi’s side, but no agreement has been reached between the two parties. The Argentine forward’s contract expires at the end of the season. The 2022 FIFA World Cup winner has been increasingly linked with a return to his former club as his contract with PSG approaches.

Only a short time ago, Blaugrana president John Laporta confirmed that he had met Messi’s father, adding fuel to the discussion. He said, “I met Jorge Messi, and we talked about the World Cup and the tribute game for Leo. I’m happy for him. He’s at PSG now, so I don’t want to talk about whether he can come back or not.”

The Argentine captain became a great footballer during his time with the Blaugrana. Playing in the first team for 17 seasons for Barcelona, he scored 672 goals and provided 303 assists in 778 games.
